Jul. 30th, 2012 07:44 pmCharacter: The Dark Knight Sparda
Series: Devil May Cry
Age: Over two-thousand years old, apparent age somewhere in the mid-thirties to forties
History: Sparda: the Wiki
Canon Point: Maybe a year before his death.
Personality:
Sparda is pretty much what you get when you take the personalities of his sons, shove them in a blender, and then let them settle for a few thousand years. He is level-headed like Vergil, but not cold or heartless. He has a rebellious nature like Dante, but knows how to direct it to suit his needs and not just smash everything. However, unlike his sons he is completely comfortable with himself, embracing his human side while having no ill feelings about the fact that he is a demon.
He is a very honorable and, if his cloths are anything to go by, old fashioned man. He was revered and respected among demons during his time under Mundus and afterward there are many stories about how he courageously fought to protect humanity from his own kind. He is described as a noble fighter and possessed great wisdom and intellect, unlike most demons. For the most part he lets humanity take care of its own issues, preferring to quietly mediate from the sidelines and only stepping in if there is a demon or hellgate that cannot be dealt with by others.
After turning against Mundus he was labeled a traitor and there doesn't seem to be a devil in existence that isn't out for his blood in one way or another. Betraying your master is something that is not done in the Demon World and Mundus has held a grudge against him for almost two thousand years. However, Sparda holds onto few demonic morals, to the point that he seals away his own power when he feels that he has become too strong, which is unheard of in the Demon World.
Love is the major force behind Sparda's actions. Love for humanity is why he turned against Mundus and gave up his godlike power to create the seal to keep them safe. Love for his family is why he gave Eva the amulet that was his last tie to his old power and why he gave his remaining Devil Arms to his sons. He will do anything to protect those he cares about, even if it eventually leads to his death.
Skills and Abilities:
Sparda is a full-blooded demon and at the peak of his power was practically a god. Most of that power was used to seal the gate between the human and demon realms and is out of his reach without his amulet but he still has many of the same abilities as other demons and more specifically those in his bloodline. He has enhanced speed, strength, durability, a faster reaction time, and heals from wounds much faster than a human. He is able to channel his own energy through his various weapons, usually having it manifest as something related to fire, electricity, or shadow, and when fully Triggered is able to mold his energy into a large spectral dragon.
Devil Trigger is an ability that allows devils to release their full potential. In the past Sparda was able to freely change back and forth between his devil and human bodies, but the seal he has placed on himself means that now he is only able to Trigger for short bursts and usually only if he has the amulet he gave to Eva.
As a devil, holy water and holy element attacks are very effective.
Currently Sparda only has two weapons on him, his twin pistols Luce and Ombra, both of which are designed for rapid fire and are able to channel his demonic energy so that he never runs out of bullets. He is also a skilled swordsman, though currently his blades are either being used to seal a door or with his sons. He is also skilled enough with magic to steal the names of other demons and create a seal that lasted well after his death.
Sparda was also at one time a trusted general of the devil Mundus and had at least two students that he was training.
First Person Sample:
[The Dark Knight Sparda was currently talking to his wife through a baby monitor as they both search for their one-year old sons. Amazing how things change.]
I am sure they are fine, milady, I would have felt if anything had gotten past the wards.
[The monitor is moved away as Eva goes on about broken chairs, the chewed trough crib bars, and the blood that was now on the porch.]
The furniture is easily replaced, milady, and we were talking about replacing the cribs anyway.
[Well the boys aren't in this study, maybe the next room.]
The blood is from a chicken, by the way, all it means is that we will have to adjust their diet again. [A wry smile crosses his face as he moves down the hall.] Though it might be amusing to see what they can manage to hunt down next.
[The monitor is moved again as his wife sternly states that no, it wouldn't be, knowing their luck the next "hunt" would be a neighbor's pet.]
Merely a joke, milady, my apologies. Ahh
[The master bedroom is a mess. Pillows and bloody feathers liter the floor and two messy white-haired toddlers curled together in the sheets without a care in the world.]
I have found them, milady, they are alright.
[Sparda makes his way over to the bed, careful to not wake the boys as he runs a hand through the hair on one of their messy heads.]
We will have to replace the bedding as well though.
Third Person Sample:
The demons on the docks are numerous, unorganized, and for the most part ignored by the purple figure dashing between the buildings. The other hunters can handle the lesser monsters, he has larger matters to attend to. This doesn't stop him from shooting one every so often. Shots to the eye, mouth, joints, and any other weak points he can spot, each shot aiming just to cripple, he doesn't have time to stay and finish them off.
He makes his way to where the largest knot of demons is swarming around a crudely constructed gate and the human that had built it. More shots are fired now, but these are to kill, demonic forms disintegrating into dust and lingering energy left and right. The human manning the gate turns towards the disturbance and sneers. "So one of you made it through." He lets out a mad cackle and dramatically waves his arms up to the glowing gate. "Well, unfortunately for you, it's too late! Nothing can stop me now!"
Twin pistols are slid back into their holsters and the man in purple reaches one arm up to grasp onto the hilt of the Ōkatana strapped to his back. "Well then," the remaining demons edge back as a blue light starts to form around the sheath and the man gives a sharp toothed grin. "I suppose it is not the strangest title I have acquired." The blade is brought down in one swift stroke, blue light and wind knocking back and killing the leftover demons but not appearing to do much else.
"H-ha! You missed!"
"I was not aiming for you." The Ōkatana is slid back into its sheath with a click and a line appears across the gate before it crumbles to the ground, closed for good. "However, it would appear that he is." There is the barest sound of moving air as a sniper takes out the man responsible for the madness today and Sparda walks off to leave the cleanup to the other hunters.
